Photography might be defined as the translation of external visual reality into material form through mechanism and chemistry, digital technology, or some combination thereof. When a human being is behind the camera, we say that a photograph is a visual perception materialized. But this schematic definition, which largely accounts for the entrenched notion of photography as a medium tied to the real, obscure an important aspect of photographic experience as we will encounter it here: the life of the photograph in the spectatorial mind. Image and Imagination by Martha Langford is a book that challenges the normality of photographs. Attached are some of the most powerful images.
